IMPORTANCE OF PLACEMAKING IN THE GROWING TOURISM OF INDIAN CITIES

Shraddha Sharma

Abstract

The growing tourism in India has brought out a great deal in the economy, but what has most strikingly influenced these cities are the mixing of communities, social lifestyles, and exchange of ideas and views. An urban space can be called as a by-product of a city created by the one’s residing, and it has a huge impact on tourism centered cities. But what makes the city more interactive? The city over the years has a tendency to develop around the historical city and this transition of old and new have brought out spaces, art, and culture that have lost their sense of identity. This is where placemaking plays its part. It brings out spaces and activities that are made for human interaction and are urban public spaces that are largely associated with the sociality and formality of different encountered entities. This paper emphasizes the concept of placemaking and its importance in the growing sector of tourism. It also discusses the communities and art forms that were long lost and slowly are gaining its identity in the field of tourism.
