Urban agriculture to enhance a city from a sustainability point of view

Abstract


As we all know, 70 percent of rural households still depend primarily on agriculture. The core activity of rural areas is agriculture still now. The proportion of the rural population declined from 72.19% to 68.84%, which in turn tells that population in urban areas is increasing day by day. But the sad truth is, this mass level of the population depends on rural areas for the food source. “Urban agriculture: agribusiness, cultivating, or planting is the act of developing, handling and circulating food in or around metropolitan territories. Urban farming can likewise include animal cultivation, hydroponics, agroforestry, metropolitan beekeeping, and agriculture. This concept enables the city to implement sustainable practices to provide agricultural resources for its people, thus making it a self-sustainable city. We could break the economic and environmental boundaries, reduce carbon footprints, encourage people's participation, and increase social interaction. The paper studies, what agriculture in urbanism, which will serve as a solution to the situation mentioned above.
