Sustainable Building in India

Rajat Choudhary

Abstract

Sustainable building materials and technologies and building practices have evolved through ages. The subsequent points need attention relating to the building materials: energy consumed within the producing processes, issues of long distance transportation, natural resources and raw materials consumed, exercise and safe disposal, and impact on atmosphere. Therefore the problems associated with energy expenditure, recycling, environmental and sustainability with reference to future demand need to be addressed throughout the manufacture and use of any new sustainable building material by the practice of increasing the efficiency with which buildings use resources energy, water, and materials whereas reducing building impacts on human health, and therefore the atmosphere, through better site, design, construction, operation, maintenance, and removal, i.e., the entire building life cycle for achieving sustainable building development. The goal of the “green building” project is to reduce the impact of construction on the atmosphere by sustainable building and materials that are resource economical and cannot compromise the health of the atmosphere or the associated health and well-being of the building's occupants, construction employees, the overall public, or future generations. Sustainable building involves the thought of the many problems, as well as land use, impacts, indoor atmosphere, energy and water use, solid waste, and lifecycle impacts of building materials
