Adaptive Reuse: Healing Abandoned Heritage Monuments Back to Its Former Glory

Yunus Khan Khan, Shruti Patidar Patidar, Juhi Pimple

Abstract

Heritage building adaptive reuse is a complicated procedure that tries to retain the significance of architectural heritage while adapting them for modern usage and converting them to the future. Identification of process phases and design development are the two objectives of this research. Although the model is a 'concept,' it will need to be met in reality, it is believed that following it will benefit in the preservation and conservation of heritage structures. A literature study was undertaken on a worldwide level to provide an overview of the approach and identify its essential phases. The literature review found that the AR process in regard to heritage structures has received little attention. A conceptual model describing the AR process of heritage structures has been defined based on the findings of this study. This process has ten steps: 'initiative,' 'heritage building analysis,' '"mapping degree of significance,' 'definition of adaptive reuse possibility.
