Conservation of the Architectural Aspects in the Heritage Precincts of Amritsar

Abstract


The city of Amritsar showcases the composite culture and has evolved as a historic city in different
phases and various historical eras representing the association with some of the prominent figures of
the region, typified by historic buildings and various sites in the precincts of the city. Amritsar is
slowly and steadily losing the importance of its historical and cultural value. Well known for its
multitude of values and various architectural styles which include Muslim, Rajputana, British and
Sikh Architecture reflected in the various areas in and around the historic precinct of the city.
However, as time has passed, the city has transformed from its original identity. According to studies,
the original identity is gradually changing, and historic elements and features are being transformed
or destroyed as a result of urbanization and other reasons. This research is to identify the
Architectural character of this city in one of the areas in the precinct of Amritsar and emphasizes
conserving the same with its values and connection to past eras.
