Conservation Practices Depleting Values and Lifespan of Heritage

SAKSHI SONI, Shruti Patidar, Juhi Pimple

Abstract

Human Life was developed based on needs and requirements for living. Each building embodies one or more of these concepts, such as life, love, hope, and death, in its own unique way. Many beautiful works have been created to express love such as Taj Mahal. The importance of hope (temples) and the requirement for burial grounds or crypts to satisfy the after death were factors in the development of religion and society. Buildings and monuments play a significant role in cultural representation or serve as a remembrance to an occasion. Heritage has been harmed and destroyed for the last few decades. Their sense of belief in tradition and culture had been eroded by human society's unceasing yearning for advancement. The maintenance and preservation of such buildings and their worth are significant due to the necessity for knowledge about historical events and developments. Conservation is the process of preserving and restoring the fundamental (architectural and historic) qualities of heritage by eradicating erosion and sedimentation signals (usually) using a variety of techniques, while creating an urban context to blend with modernist features. The Indian Conservation History and study of practices based on values and architectural context is very rich. There are a lot of conservation methods regardless of engineering background, which helps in the preservation of Heritage. The approaches had benefits and drawbacks that must be identified for the sustainability of Heritage. The study of conservation in this document is based on architectural and intangible values, which include cultural, mythical, regional (urban), environmental, traditional, social, and service accommodations.
