ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN PRACTICES OF ANCIENT Vs MODERN ERA : A STUDY

Akshay Sanyal

Abstract

In the present era, architectural practice is way more different from that of as practiced in ancient era. There are some major factors which were evolved during building design practices periodically. An Architect must consider an over view of historical evolution of buildings by comparing their major design parameters with ancient building design/construction techniques implied. Therefore, it might also help to understand the decision making process of referred era with respect to modern era. Comparing and analyzing the building designs from different eras will definitely highlight many major changes/aspects which can help aiding our present & future building design practices. This comparative study may also evaluate the broader idea of environmental impact of ancient buildings with respect to the modern  ones. This research is aimed at the architects/building designers of present era as a tool of enhancing the quality of design practices.
