Anahita Joshi, Dr. Ankita Srivastava

Abstract

The Sanchi stupa is one the most eminent constructions made about 2500 years after the passing of lord buddha and is an excellent example of Mauryan architecture. Stupa construction is advantageous in terms of karma for Buddhists. Hinduism and Buddhism both emphasize the
importance of karma, which is the energy produced by ones deeds and the moral repercussions of those deeds. The Sanchi stupa is an early structure made specifically with the help of stones and an exemplary construction in architectural history. The construction was commenced by the great
Mauryan king, Ashoka, the great during 3 rd century BCE. The stupa serves to be a reminder of the past and the architectural era of that time, being an important structure and an old monument of Indian architecture. It remains a living example of art and architectural brilliance.it is the oldest and
largest stupa at the Sanchi Buddhist monumental complex. The Sanchi Stupa is an important pilgrimage site for Buddhists and is also a popular tourist destination. One of the best-preserved historical monuments in India, it has received the UNESCO World Heritage designation. The stupa
and its surrounding monasteries are a testament to the cultural, religious, and architectural heritage of ancient India and provide valuable insight into the spread of Buddhism in India and Southeast Asia. The paper focuses on highlighting the historical as well as architectural significance of the
monument the case studies and observation of the building are the basis of the paper.
