Redevelopment of Mahakal Complex Ujjain

Abstract


This paper explores the religious significance and redevelopment of the Mahakal Complex in the holy city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. The focus of the paper is to critically evaluate the Mahakal temple complexes construction and redevelopment, to determine the process of inclusion and
development strategies for holistic development. This paper also addresses the influence of urban transformation on the city based on the land use land cover concept as well as on the complex over 20 years from the year 2001 up to the year 2021. The study investigates the phases of the changes that took place during the development of the Mahakal temple complex in
infrastructure, and physical growth patterns of the city. The paper will also look at the sustainability that affects the building construction material, land use, and the way they are adapted, and relate new materials with customized lifespans actively interacting and correlating to building performance. This paper shall try to describe the comparative sequential development of the site and the temple corridor that took place systematically during the stages of the development.
