Planning for Socio-Economic Development in Towns

Abstract

This article aims at understanding of the census towns and its socio-economic factors. In this paper, the current socio-economic issues of census towns and proposals for the town including housing, open spaces, inclusivity, employment generation, economic base and other necessary social infrastructure are briefly studied through literature study and case study. This dissertation paper can be taken forward to understand and analyse how small towns acts as a catalyst between cities and villages. The key finding of the study is indicators for social and economic resilience in towns. Through this study implementation strategies, development regulation rules and agency-wise schemes/projects for the development of the town to the next level in the district as well as planning strategies required for socio-economic development of census towns are put forward.
