NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING WITH THE HELP OF GIS IN MUMBAI

Abstract


This paper is an academic attempt to understand the various aspects of neighborhood planning. It highlights the vision of neighborhood planning to identify the various problems in the selected area. It takes efforts to define and operationalize the concept of neighborhood planning in the urban area. This paper also assures that to be successful in planning with the help of geographical information system. GIS is capable of supporting the process of town planning and is able to take input, manipulate, store data, analyze the data useful in planning. It also helps in decision making and its implementation. Therefore, using GIS in town planning can develop a database for both data which attribute and special data. From this data we can make planning according to the town and country planning department. The use of GIS also saves time and cost, also the data can be regained faster. It can not only be used in urban areas but also in that area where there is a risk of landslides, earthquakes and other hazard actions. The various maps and sections can also be made through the use of GIS. The study showed that the use of GIS in town planning can improve the quality of town planning process, saving time and cost, and the data can be obtained faster.
