Spatiotemporal Analysis for Urban Pattern Evolution in Sacred District Mathura of India through K-means Classification

Abstract


When considering about the urban structures, morphology, and functions of a historic and pilgrimage place, it is very important to know the relationship between urban structures and urban functions. This relationship can be established at micro as well as macro level to understand the theory on urban lifecycles and urban sociological interactions. Also, growth of urbanization is directly proportional to economic development of the nation and so as the need of proper maintenance and development of that city. In the era of ‘Geoinformatics’, spatial resolution of satellite images decides the scale of spatial analysis to differentiate between micro and macro level of urban remote sensing. In India, societal and spiritual evolution of a pilgrimage place gives the birth to the economical amplification which is either due to urban expansion or it causes in the urban escalation. This research tries to establish the spatiotemporal relationship between urban functions and urban structures at macro level within the Mathura district in India using archival satellite images from Landsat series for more than four decades.
