Introspection of Hill Tourism for Sustainable Development A Situation Analysis in Uttarkashi District, Uttarakhand

Abstract


Hill tourism has the high potential to stimulate the economic growth and social change impact. Hilly regions attracts more tourists to multi destinations for varied reasons including scenic beauty, climate, tranquil environment, wildlife sanctuaries, unique landscapes, local culture and heritage and unique opportunity to experience the adventure trill in awe inspiring terrain. Uttarkashi district lying in the Garhwal region of northern state of Uttarakhand offers unique destinations of Hindu pilgrimage sites, adventure sports in snowy meadows in winter and huge lush green meadows in summer and diverse range of biodiversity. Apart from the natural attractions the district has the significance of socio cultural, economic and environmental dimensions leading to sustainable
development that helps in expanding tourism Industry due to its vast scope in the district. This paper aims to identify the potentiality of Uttarkashi district for its inclusive growth in context with hill tourism and underlying the cause of the weakened progress for sustainable development. The
proposed strategies are made on the basis of rational planning and effective management framework for sustainable development. The methodology for this research is made on the basis of situation analysis of Uttarkashi district through data drawn from the secondary sources, analyzing trend
statistics, swot analysis for understanding the key issuses and challenges.
