Yamuna Expressway: Impact on the Spatial Pattern of the Adjoining Region, U.P.

Poorva Yadav, Abhay Tiwari

Abstract

The Government of India has invested Huge Capitals for the enhancement of Tranport Infrastructure keeping the assumption that the creation of transportation routes will result in development along their corridors. It has been concluded through various researches that transportation is not only driver of development but it plays a vital role in development. Through my research work and analysis, I have compared the spatial pattern and levels of development of neighbouring districts in the region around Yamuna Expressway to analyse the impacts of transport infrastructure in regional development. This has been done by comparing the Scenario prior and after the completion of Expressway. The Yamuna Expressway passes through 6 districts of Uttar Pradesh. The presence of a transport network is expected to influence its immediate hinterland and the adjoining corridor is expected to have a change in spatial and settlement Pattern. The delineation of the Study Region has been done using the spatial buffer technique, and the buffer is 100 kilometre longitudinal buffer along the length of the expressway.
