Role of Architecture and Urban Design in Nation Building

Nandini Bhandari

Abstract

The study primarily focuses on the importance of establishing the identity of nations such the local inhabitants can relate to it in terms of the historic as well as futuristic aspects attached to it. This is crucial for a global presence of communities across diverse cultures and value systems. Light has been thrown on how architects and urban designers use their expertise in the field to design and develop nations through space and time. It accounts for the role of the general public in guiding the design decisions in an indirect manner such that a holistic process is applied in building a nation. The research includes various studies on thoughts and perceptions of individuals and communities and the materialisation of the same at the time when space is considered a space and time is an illusion.
