Abstract

Soil is one of the foremost commonly encountered materials in engineering. However black cotton soils are excellent for agriculture purpose, they are not so good for laying durable roads and construction of buildings. Soil stabilization is additionally how to treat a soil to wish care of, alter or improve the performance of soil. A test examination is apportioned to ascertain the effect of Ground Nut Shell Ash mixed with Lime on designing and quality properties of the Black Cotton Soils. Groundnut shell Ash is a agriculture byproduct obtain from milling of ground nut and drying and burning it’s shell. Thus an attempt is made during this study to figure out the characteristics of black cotton soil of Satara district region by blending it with agricultural waste i.e. GSA and commonly used stabilizing material i.e. Lime. Stabilization occurs when lime and GSA are added to black cotton soil and a pozzolanic reaction takes place. After adding lime in soil mass it reacts with the clay particles and permanently transforms them into a cementation matrix. After adding GSA and lime in soil significant improvement was observed in Free Swell Index, Standard Proctor and CBR. In our project, groundnut shell ash was taken at 5%, 8%,10% interval and lime was fixed at 5% to soil and examining the optimum percentage of groundnut shell ash and lime combined. As lime is expensive in nature and GSA could also be a waste so we've fixed the amount of Lime at 5% by weight of soil mass and varied proportion of GSA. Minimum FSI is obtained at mixture of 10% GSA and 5% of Lime combined. Optimum values of MDD and OMC found at 5% lime and 5% GSA. Maximum CBR value is Obtained at the proportional mix of 5% Lime and 5% of GSA.
