Significance of Cultural Landscaping: How Tangible Cultural Aspects Defines Our Legacy

Abstract


The goal of the current paper is to express significance of cultural landscapes though the regional identity of a place. How these landscapes which are cultural in nature become the legacy for a particular community. Indian history is rich in such landscapes and with every successor the relationship of man with the landscape evolved. Moreover such cultural resources and wildlife therein are associated with various historical events exhibiting its cultural, historic as well as aesthetic value. In earlier days there was a very close relationship between human civilizations and natural environment but today in accordance with multiple factors the decisions made by humans have come to an extent of threatening the survival and continuity of our shared heritage. So it becomes our responsibility to protect and inherit our cultural landscapes and learn how, if we interpret such practices in current planning system it can actually improve the quality of life of the current as well as the future generations. The basic study will include the sites like Fatehpur Sikri which are selected in UNESCs World Heritage Category and the potential sites in our country which actually fall under Cultural Landscape category.
