The Psychological Effect of Landscape Architecture on the Student’s Academic Performance

Sally Essawy, Dareen Kandil, Dareen Dousso

Abstract

Landscape architecture is the outline of outside open areas, points of interest, and structures to accomplish natural, social-behavioral, or stylish results. When Fredrick Olmsted generated the field of landscape architecture in the late 1800's, he strongly stated that landscape added a significant conception of beauty. Consequently, Architects nowadays often engage elements of greenery in order to enhance the overall design that they've made. Also, latest landscape projects have included social objectives in their design. In this research, we concentrated on the School environment and discussed the physiological effects on primary students from architecture and landscape. The focus of this particular study is to find if landscape brings out the quality of school institutions and student performance. We hypothesize that landscape help students do better in school and help them to recover from stress. Numerous different methods for assessing the characteristics have been presented in past studies. In this study, the effect of the parameters to the variables of the reaction, including the method to determine the characteristics, is investigated. The results can be used as a starting point to understand the co-relation between landscape and academic performance, which may bring more advances that will allow us to use plants and landscape technologies in schools.
