Swati Pradhan, Ankit Rai

Abstract

Traditional or vernacular architecture practice always respected the local climate, culture and tradition of the community, and most importantly, it is contextual. Various parameters such as geographical location, climatic conditions, occupation, culture and tradition of the society/community decide these principles in a specific setup and make the structures sustainable in all respect. Typology can be described as classification of existing building types and urban forms. These types can differ according to the use and social function of the building. It is important because it makes the built environment of any area and it defines the aesthetic appearance and feel of the city. It not only gives the image of the city but also gives the characteristic to the city. It defines the border between the public and private spaces. It can be termed as the barrier as where the city ends and where the home begins.
