Influence of the Design Issues on Crime Prevention: An Overview of the Architectural and Environmental Approaches
Abstract
Crime prevention is no longer a new global issue. Wherever the location is, preventing crime is more fecund than redressing it. Along with proper and neoteric enforcement of law, architecture is now being considered as a significant means of controlling crime. How the additional endeavors can abate crimes are summarized in this article. Here, this has been tried to put focus on the effectiveness of architectural and environmental approaches to prevent crime rather than the accustomed methods of law enforcement. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" [1]. Along with architectural approach, environmental design also proved having eminent influence on crime control. Numerous studies have been conducted and many documents were written on the relationship between environmental design and crime. This article fetched together the basic concepts of crime prevention through architectural and environmental approaches.
