Abstract

Rivers play an important role in human civilization. In Indian countries, rivers were considered as sacred and it holds the Historic and heritage significance of the place. But in the current scenario, due to the growth of the city and rapid urbanization, the river was exploited to pollution. River Tamirabarani is known for its regional and cultural importance, hence the need to revive the dying river is found significant. Hence by addressing this issue, the paper deals with reviving the Tambirabarani River in Tirunelveli city. The research has been focused on providing planning strategies for sustainable riverfront development within the city limit of Tirunelveli. Thereby, analyzing the issues and related problems of the Tambirabarani River and, providing sustainable riverfront development for both the city people and tourists by adopting suitable planning ideas.This paper describes how the polluted river can become economically and environment sustainably viable Riverfront development with proper planning.
