Enhancing Productivity Through Daylight in Corporate Workspaces

Abstract


It is often seen that elements of nature induces tranquillity and rejuvenates a person. There have already been various medical researches on this concern introspecting the relation between nature, specifically daylight and its benefits. In this paper, we will examine the architectural aspect of it, with allusion to daylight. “Can daylight improve work performance?”, “Whether daylight can be an obstruction or fruitful for the employees if considered in a building plan?” are the major questions. Corporate offices in particular have large energy requirements and artificial lighting environment. Incorporating daylight into the room decreases the energy consumption of the lighting. Both the brighter and darker aspect of allowing sunlight are examined. Various cases exploring the orientation and applicability of glazing is also manifested in order to better understand the topic application. The methodology followed in the paper is analytical study based on the data entered by the user group. The stakeholders were given various pictorial and logical questions which helped the paper reach towards the conclusion.  Their preferences and routine studies were conducted through electronic mode. The paper sheds light on the role of daylight in improving a corporate employee’s work productivity and the reasons associated with it. It further talks about the benefits and ways that contribute in using it efficiently for the purpose.
