Study of Vertical Greenery System as Passive Approach for Sustainable Design

Riya Talaria

Abstract

With rapid urbanization and population growth, the use of land for construction of residential, industrial areas and other infrastructure is resulting in microclimate deterioration and air pollution. Due to urbanization, the urban heat island effect has become a serious problem. Urban greenery is attracting an increased attention as the mitigation against urban thermal environment. Subsequently, greenery has turned into a key component of urban change and the outer surfaces of structures have been esteemed to hold open doors for the addition of greenery into urban-spaces. Planting on rooftops and dividers has since turned out to be a standout amongst the most inventive and quickly created highlights of city arranging, design and biological finishing. This research will display the meanings and terminologies associated with vertical greenery system, benefits and challenges in varied and extreme climates in India. The green vertical surfaces can contribute significantly towards environmental, social and economic benefits to the built environment; moreover the research displays requisites and strategies for sustainable vertical greenery system in India for the urban environment.
