The Role of Housing in Engendering Human Comfort by Socio-psychological and Built Environment

Abstract


Habitability of a house is affected by the engineering elements, besides by social, behavioural, cultural, and other elements in the societal-environmental system. Housing Satisfaction is essentially a concept that is very much associated with multi-dimensional aspects and views which also include among others physical, social and neighbourhood factors, besides psychological, behavioural, interpersonal relations and socio-demographic residents’ characteristics. It has been seen from studies that the impact on homeownership satisfaction of owner of houses constructed by various agencies, i.e., private builder, government agencies and self-constructed houses varies as per socio-psychological and physical environment. Since housing touches individual’s life as well as that of the nation; importance is greatly ascribed to the role it plays in engendering human comfort by both nature and society This research paper examines the importance of satisfaction level among the house owners due to social environment, psychological environment and physical environment. The research investigates the relationship between the various ways in which all related housing attributes has a significant effect on life satisfaction of individuals and home ownership satisfaction and to make the design approach.
